Assessing industry performance

The Australian Uranium Association's industry Code of Practice is intended to encourage continuous improvement to best practice by uranium miners and explorers.

The AUA assesses progress regularly and has completed its first comprehensive survey of Member companies.

The survey has revealed encouraging levels of best practice performance under the Code.

It has also revealed some areas for improvement, particularly in:

  • communication about the risks involved in exploring for and mining uraniu, and
  • early engagement of traditional owners in planning environmental protection and conservation activities for projects.

The survey findings are guiding improvements to the Code itself and are helping companies address issues in their own programmes.
