Safety of workers is paramount
The uranium industry and the Federal Government have collaborated to produce a practical, easy-to-use guide to radiation safety for workers in the mining and minerals processing sector.
Co-sponsored by the Australian Uranium Association and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, the handbook is expected to be provided to employees in the uranium, minerals sands and rare earths mining and processing industries.
The guide will be an adjunct to information mining companies already provide to workers about radiation controls and safe radiation management practices.
Employees are advised not to rely on the new guide alone, but to be aware of and act in accordance with their employers' own rules and practices for radiation management.
The new guide was prepared and produced by acknowledged radiation safety experts, Katrina Sonter and Mark Sonter.
