Australian Uranium Industry

The Australian uranium industry is made up of companies that explore for, mine, process and export uranium oxide for use in nuclear power stations overseas.

The industry processes and exports around 10,000 tonnes of uranium oxide each year. These exports generate about $A900 million in sales each year.

Australia sells uranium only to countries which have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and which have also signed bilateral safeguards agreements with Australia.

Australian uranium is used in Europe, North America and Asia. China recently joined the list of customer countries for Australian uranium.
